Mold in my Big Green Egg (grill)!?
Recently got my second Big Green Egg (lost first in Katrina). While I only had the first one for 3 months, never had a problem with anything growing inside - used it 5 - 6 times. I have had this second one for about 2 months and used it 3 - 4 times. Once already I have had to take out all the innerds (especially the grate) and charcoal to clean out mold that had grown in it. It was only dormant for a week or so, and I had cleaned off the grate. Now, it is full of mold again.
I live on the coast and it is humid, but I didn't have that problem before. I have had a few gas grills also that never had problems. The gasket is fine.
Does anyone think a cover would help? Any similar problems? It's very heavy - I don't want to have to try to return it - I don't think it's "defective".

I don't think it's defective either. You've given the reason for the mold in your answer: Katrina. A flood will bring mold around where there wasn't any before, and it is pesky to get rid of.
Normal cleaning with soap or other household cleaners will get your grill to LOOK clean, but mold spores are so tiny that they're almost invisible. And they'll just grow back. What I'd do is clean all the parts - all of them - in soapy water, then in a solution of 1 gallon water to 1 cup household bleach. Let them air dry. This will kill all the mold spores.
As for preventing more mold from growing - yes, a cover would help. The key is to keep it as dry as possible.
