Can I keep a pomeranian outdoors?
I'm considering getting a pomeranian, but would prefer to have the dog (or any dog that I'd consider getting) be outdoors in my backyard for most of the time.
Details on backyard: My backyard is fairly large. In addition, there's a plot of fence in it that's about 5 meters by 3 meters long. It can be locked, and the dog wouldn't be able to crawl underneath. There's also a lemon tree in the plot, and one side of the fence is a concrete wall.
Input will be greatly appreciated.
Poms may have fluffy coats but they are NOT an outside dog! If the dog is going to be alone and outside most of the time, why do you even want one? As has already been stated, dogs are pack animals, they WANT to be with their pack leaders which is you! Please don't put any breed of dog in your back yard and leave it alone for long periods, it's just cruel. If you do get a Pom and keep it in most of the time, I would not let it out into the yard unsupervised as you never know if there are any predators around and unscrupulous people may try to steal it.
